Who is the course aimed at?

This is a course for staff responsible for the co-ordination of contractors carrying gamma and X-radiography. No previous knowledge of radiation or radiation protection is assumed. Note: this course is not suitable for those who are to be appointed as radiation protection supervisor, nor is it sufficient training for radiographers themselves.

What is the course about?

This course is about promoting good co-operation between employers during radiographic operations. The course provides an understanding of the risks associated with contract radiography and the responsibilities of the various parties

What are the benefits of the course?

The learning outcomes for this course are that on completion, those attending will:

understand the nature and properties of both X and gamma radiation and how this is used during industrial radiography

understand the hazards of radiation, the importance of restricting exposure, and the various controls and procedures that radiographers can use to achieve this

be aware of the requirements of the relevant legislation, and how these apply during site radiography

understand what is involved in auditing radiographic procedures

know how contractors should deal effectively with likely incidents during radiography and recognise the role of the contractors and the site coordinator in dealing with such incidents

Course overview

The programme runs over half a day and comprises of interactive talks. Presenters are selected from our pool of specialists and advisers, all of whom are familiar with the work.
