Overview

The course is aimed at the Radiation Protection Adviser and Qualified Expert with a special interest in work involving open sources. It will also be of interest to persons that supervise such work and those responsible for designing and monitoring work areas.

Our courses are taught to a high standard. Learning is further supported by comprehensively equipped training venues and in-depth, reference quality printed course information. Everything is done to give students a detailed understanding and competency in the skills being taught.

The course is certificated.

Practical exercises and lectures

The emphasis is on the practical application of this knowledge and the course contains a number of group exercises in which students are required to critically review radiation hazards and make practical proposals for radiation protection under normal and accident conditions.

The course teaches students about the nature of internal radiation hazards and the means by which these can be controlled in practice in the workplace. Particular attention is paid to the design, designation and monitoring of areas in relation to internal radiation hazards. The role of working procedures and protective clothing is also covered. It covers the main concepts and terminology associated with internal radiation exposures, the application of controls, the regulation of work and dealing with spillages in the workplace.

It is strongly recommended that students should have either attended the Foundation in Radiological Protection course or have a detailed understanding of its content. Prior attendance on the UK Legislation and International Recommendations course is helpful, but not essential.

This certificated course is assessed by short examination.
