In addition to the services delivered by the Medical Exposures Group (MEG) in UKHSA, the Nuclear Medicine team provides scientific secretariat and an administrative Support Unit to the Administration of Radioactive Substances Advisory Committee (ARSAC). This expert Committee, sponsored by the Department for Health and Social Care, assesses applications for licences from clinicians and their employers, to administer radioactive medicinal products to people as part of their medical diagnosis, treatment or research.

The goal of ARSAC is to ensure the safety of patients who are administered with radioactive materials ensuring that nuclear medicine services are managed by appropriately trained clinicians with suitable facilities and supporting staff available. The Nuclear Medicine team within MEG works closely as a bridge between ARSAC and the community and provides Scientific secretariat and an administrative Support Unit for ARSAC. ARSAC publishes advice and guidance on good clinical practice for nuclear medicine in the UK. The Nuclear Medicine team manages the publication of this guidance as well as regular newsletters through a subscription E-bulletin.
