Professor Sir Stephen Holgate FRCP, FRCPath, FMedSci

Stephen Holgate is Medical Research Council Clinical Professor of Immunopharmacology and honorary consultant physician at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton. He has utilised many approaches to study asthma and related allergic diseases resulting in excess of 1000 peer review publications. He is cofounder of Synairgen, to develop inhaled interferon-beta for viral respiratory diseases. He has been Past-President of the BSACI, BTS and British Association for Lung Research. Stephen has been recipient of a number of personal awards including The King Faisal International Prize in Medicine, the J Allyn Taylor International Prize in Medicine (Canada), and the BTS Medal. He is Special Advisor to the RCP on Air Quality, recipient of the 2018 RCP President's Medal, 2021 FPH Bazalgette Professorship Champion of Evidence Award and is currently UKRI Clean Air Champion. He was appointed to CBE in 2011 for Clinical Science and Knighted in 2020 for contributions to Medical Research.
