Overview

UKHSA is the UK's primary authority carrying out research to advance knowledge about protection from the risks of radiation. In addition we have been integral in establishing world leading Non-Ionising Radiation (NIR) safety standards.

This one-day course provides an overview of the nature of Non-Ionising Radiation (NIR) - including electromagnetic fields, radiofrequency radiations, optical and laser radiations. The course provides the information and guidance for employers to help identify, assess and manage NIR sources to help achieve compliance.

Programme

The course is split into two sessions, dealing with optical radiations and electromagnetic fields. The sessions aim to provide a basic understanding of the hazards in the context of current and future legislation and guidance. Each session also reviews exposures from potentially problematic sources and discusses appropriate control strategies.
